What is a Diaspora?

The term diaspora refers to the dispersal of an ethnic community or people around the world. Originally, this term only covered the phenomenon of dispersion itself. Today, by extension, it also refers to the result of the dispersion, that is to say, all members of a community scattered across several countries. The number of people living in diaspora is not known precisely, but it can be estimated at 600 million, or 10% of humanity. The report of the Global Commission on International Migration (UN) estimates that 200 million migrants (Report 2005). We can multiply this figure by three to estimate the number of diasporic citizens or not the host country.
